Spanish & FrenchLevel IThis is a beginning course in which students are presented with basic conversational patterns and structures in language. Students learn to answer and ask questions of a personalized nature and are able to satisfy basic survival needs and minimum courtesy requirements in language. They also learn to read and write these questions and answers. The skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the foreign language are emphasized. Level IILevel II provides an in-depth treatment to the phonology and morphology of the foreign language. Mastery of the skills of listening, speaking, reading,,and writing are emphasized. The student learns to behave appropriately and sensitively in a second culture and continues to acquaint herself with the living culture of the people who speak Spanish and French, thus enabling her to satisfy some survival needs and some limited social demands. Level IIIThe advanced language provides an in-depth treatment of the advanced phonology and morphology. In addition, emphasis is placed on extended and sustained conversation with mastery of grammatical structures, concepts and a basic vocabulary of 2000 words. Literary selections in the foreign language are presented.
AP Language IVThe College Board's Advanced Placement Program determines the course content. The class is exclusively conducted in the target language and students are encouraged to speak only in the target language. Readings from magazines, contemporary literature, and newspapers expose students to varied vocabulary and provides insight into the foreign culture. The course also provides instruction and frequent opportunities to write a variety of compositions in the target language. The course provides students with regular opportunities to develop their speaking skills, and with opportunities to develop their listening ability by using a variety of authentic audio or video recordings. Because this course requires intensive homework and daily preparation, it is geared only toward the very motivated student. Students are required to take the College Board Exam in May. Level V FrenchThis is a comprehensive program for advanced students of French who have had immersion experience or have exceptional abilities in language. Emphasis is placed on the literary essay and commentary. Students prepare for written and oral exams by weekly presentations. Students should be willing to work hard to master the grammatical concepts. Students are also expected to do internships in the local French businesses. This is an intensive and exciting course that enables students to optimize their learning process of a foreign language. AP Spanish Literature Level VThe College Board's Advanced Placement Program determines the course content. This is a comprehensive program for advanced students of Spanish. Emphasis is placed on literature and commentary. Students should be willing to work hard to master the literary concepts. This is an intensive and exciting course that enables students to optimize their learning process of a foreign language. Because this course requires intensive homework and daily preparation, it is geared only toward the very motivated student. Students are required to take the College Board Exam in May. |
