Library

The library's mission is to train students to effectively use the library and its resources, thereby enabling them to discover their God given gifts and talents. The goal of the library is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The objectives to achieve these goals are as follows:

  1. to provide intellectual and physical access to information
  2. to teach students utilization of critical thinking skills in finding, using, and creating information
  3. to provide expertise in the field of library and information science
  4. to encourage habits fostering lifelong learning through libraries
  5. to provide library materials organized for ease of use by students, faculty, and staff

Library Features

Internet access is accessible throughout the library. It is firewall-protected and is limited to academic and scholarly pursuits.

The library uses a computer database called Circulation and Catalog Plus for Windows which allows library materials to be electronically checked out using a scanner. Students search the library's catalog by author, title, series, call number, subject or keyword.

The school's web site includes an Internet Resources page with links for students' use. During classroom visits to the library, students are taught how to effectively use subscription online magazines and encyclopedias, EBSCO databases, and the Louisiana Library Connection.

The Computer Resource Center

The Computer Resource Center is part of the overall computer education framework of Cabrini High School. The center allows students to incorporate computers across the curriculum and in everyday life. In the computer lab, students learn to use computer applications and to search the Internet for information.

The purpose of the center is to increase academic achievement, to encourage independent learning, and to improve research and writing skills. The Computer Resource Center offers resources for each teacher's curriculum and learning philosophy.

During class periods, individual teachers can reserve the lab for their classes.  The center is also open for independent work during prime time and before and after school.

Each student workstation is a widescreen, multimedia computer with Windows XP and Microsoft Office.  Students have access to the Internet and to scanners and CDROM burners. Educational software in the lab includes ACT/SAT Prep, Accelerated Reader, Star Vocabulary, Spanish and French language resources, and many others.
