CABRINI HIGH SCHOOL
SERVICE HOUR REQUIREMENTS
2013 – 2014 SCHOOL YEAR

In the legacy of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and as part of our theology curriculum, all students are required to complete service hours. The completed hours, along with documentation, are due on the August Back-to-School Day.

These hours must be performed for a hands-on non-profit or service organization that serves those in need. Students MAY NOT volunteer for privately-owned businesses, for-profit camps, babysitting, or  household chores. A supervisor must write a letter on the organization's letterhead stating the date(s) of  service, type of service performed, total number of hours worked, and his/her contact information with  his/her signature. The letter(s), one for each organization, must be turned in on Back to School Day.

A log sheet is not required for service hours, however it may be used.  You may choose to use a time sheet to keep track of your hours, in the case that you perform service at different organizations.  However, this time sheet will count as an official letterhead document IF you complete your approved service with a Cabrini faculty or staff member.  It must be signed and dated by the Cabrini faculty or staff member.

Students who do not complete the required hours and fail to turn in the required documentation will not be allowed to complete Back-To-School Day, and therefore, will not be allowed to begin classes.  Any exception must be approved well in advance by the Campus Minister.

The Campus Minister is available at (504) 483-8690 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you have any questions at any point in the school year or summer, please do not hesitate to contact the Campus Minister. He is available to answer any questions about requirements or to approve service organizations not on the approved list.

Failure to complete service hour requirements may result in a student not being allowed to participate in the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Exercises and/or not receiving a Cabrini diploma.

Students are also required to write a service reflection paper for a grade in religion class, due on the date determined by the teacher.

All students may qualify for a Cabrini Star Award. To receive this award, a student must perform 100 hours of service more than the required hours for their grade level and the volunteer service must be done for a non-profit organization. Last year, our students volunteered more than 22,100 service hours and 55 students qualified for the Star Award. Each year, we strive to exceed our previous record.

Prior to Back-To-School Day, rising seniors are required to complete 25 hours of volunteer service; rising juniors are required to complete 50 hours of volunteer service.  Rising juniors only are able to complete both senior and junior requirements (75 hours total) before Back-to-School Day.  Please also note that rising juniors and seniors are required to do more hands-on, direct service with people (see approved list).

Rising sophomores are required to complete 20 hours of service; rising freshmen are required to complete 15 hours of service; rising pre-freshmen are required to complete 10 hours of volunteer service.
