Spend the Day at Cabrini

Library Hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 AM - 4:15 PM
Wednesday and Friday 7:30 AM – closed at dismissal

Students are expected to follow all rules and regulations as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook while in the library as well as these Library Policies and Procedures. Recognizing that the library is a quiet, communal space used for academic endeavors, all students are expected to be courteous and respectful of others in the library. Failure to respect the working atmosphere of the library and/or to follow stated policies and procedures may result in expulsion from the library and/or disciplinary action.

Library Protocol
· While in the library, students are expected to work diligently and quietly on academic pursuits.
· The Teacher/Librarian will verify that students in the library are engaged in working on academic assignments by observing iPads/Androids, paperwork and/or books students are using and/or by questioning students about the assignment on which they are working.
· Students are expected to keep the library in order, and to return all books, magazines, materials, and chairs to their proper places.
· Students are expected to use the front glass door to enter and exit the library.
· Students are expected to sign the log on the circulation desk, completing all necessary information.
· Students using the library during class periods and/or Prime Time are expected to bring an agenda book with a teacher's signature and time of departure from the class/homeroom indicated on the date of the library visit.
· When leaving the library, students are expected to present their agenda books to the teacher/librarian on duty to indicate departure time from the library.
· NO CELL PHONE use in the library BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER school hours.
· Failure to follow these guidelines may result in expulsion from the library and/or disciplinary action.

Library Use During PrimeTime/Swing Time
· Since PT/homeroom is the time and place for academic work, students should remain in homeroom during Prime Time to read, study, or complete homework.
· During PT/homeroom/lunch, students may come to the library to check out or return books, to conduct research, to use computers for school assignments or to consult with the librarian.
· The Teacher/Librarian will verify that students in the library are engaged in working on academic assignments by observing iPads/Androids, paperwork and/or books students are using and/or by questioning students about the assignment on which they are working.
· Individual students may be asked to produce a copy of the assignment for which she is using the library computers and/or resources.
· Swing Time students may use the library for any academic pursuit, that is, to read, study, research, complete homework, and/or use computers for school assignments.
· Failure to follow these guidelines may result in expulsion from the library and/or disciplinary action.

Library Use Before and After School
· Given that the library is a place to read, study, research, and work, students are expected to respect others by working quietly while in the library.
· Before and after school, students may study in small groups.
· Before and after school, students should use the cafeteria and outdoor areas for socializing.
· Failure to follow instructions may result in expulsion from the library and/or disciplinary action.

Borrowing, Returning, or Renewing Books and Materials
· Students who borrow books from the library are required to submit an email address (and/or a parent's email address) to the online portal.
· Students may be notified of overdue books and materials by a courtesy email sent to the online portal account email address(es); however, each student is responsible for keeping track of due dates of her library books.
· Each student should present her Student ID or Student ID Number to the teacher/librarian in order to check out books or materials.
· Students should return books by dropping them in the “Book Drop,” the slot in the circulation desk directly across from the library entrance, unless the book is overdue, in which case, students should return book(s) directly to Ms. Martin-Klumpp.
· To renew books, the student can simply tell the teacher/librarian her ID Number and that she wishes to renew her book(s). In this way, a student may avoid a late book return and/or a minor.
· Reference materials may be checked out overnight: check-out time after 3:10 p.m. and check-in time by 7:30 a.m. Failure to return overnight materials on time may result in a minor.

Overdue Books and Materials
· Students with a book overdue by TWO WEEKS will receive a minor DAILY until the book is returned.
· Students may be notified of overdue books and materials by a courtesy email sent to the online portal account email address(es); however, each student is responsible for keeping track of due dates of her library books.
· Students will not be allowed to take exams until all borrowed books and materials have been returned.

Computer Use
· Students are expected to employ computers to work only on academic assignments.
· Laptop computers must be checked out with the librarian and then checked in with the librarian before students return them to the COW (cart on wheels).
· Students may check out laptops to be used outside of the library under the supervision of a teacher.
· Each student using a laptop is expected to return the laptop to the COW and to plug in the charger before leaving.
· Laptops should be placed in the COW in the same position in which they were found, that is, flush with the front of the slot so that the state tag is visible.
· Students are expected to log out of laptops and/or desktop computers before leaving the library. Students failing to do so will receive a minor.
· Students are not to open email on the library computers, as stated in handbook.
· Failure to follow guidelines may result in expulsion from the library and/or disciplinary action.

iPad and Android Use in the Library
· The CHS Technology policy and Student/Parent handbook policies apply to students' iPad or Android use in the library.
· Students are not to open email on iPads or Androids, as stated in handbook.
· Students are expected to use iPads or Androids for academic work only.
· Students may not use iPads or Androids for games or personal recreation.
· Failure to adhere to school policy regarding iPad or Android use may result in expulsion from the library and/or disciplinary action.

Care of School Property
· Destroying library property will not be tolerated. A fine will be assessed equal to the cost of the materials involved, and disciplinary action may be taken against students who damage and/or destroy library property.
· Damaged or lost materials must be paid for by the borrower; the student will not be allowed to take exams until debt is paid.
· Any book taken from the library without being checked out by the librarian will be considered stolen, and the offending student will warrant a fine equal to the cost of the book. Further disciplinary action may also be taken.
· Water bottles must be clear and stored in school bags when not in use.

Copy Machine/Printer Use
· Students are allowed to copy/print materials for academic purposes free of charge. However, BEFORE printing or copying any material, the librarian must be consulted.
· Students are expected to be prudent in copying/printing materials and should not abuse this privilege.
· Students are NOT to copy pages from any printed materials without first consulting the teacher/librarian.
· Students are NOT to print any pages without first consulting the teacher/librarian.
· Failure to follow guidelines may result in disciplinary action and/or loss of copying/printing privileges.

Accelerated Reader Program
· AR quizzes are available to students in English 8 or English I. These students are expected to access and login using the link on the Cabrini Library home page.
· Students wanting to take an AR test are expected to show her student ID to teacher/librarian/moderator, who will then enter the AR quiz password.
· Students are not limited to AR books in the CHS library; students may read any book for which there is an AR quiz.
· Students should determine if a book is an AR title by clicking on the title in the Destiny catalog. If the book is an AR title, the AR information will be listed on the next screen.

User Instructions
· Passwords for Cabrini High Internet Users can be found at every desktop.
· Instructions for computer functions, such as adding a printer, etc. are located at each desktop computer.
