Cabrini Creative Writing Big ReadOn November 9, 2016, students from Ms. Fortier’s Creative Writing class participated in the Big Read Master Class at the Algiers Regional Library. The Big Read is sponsored by the Faulkner Society of New Orleans through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and in connection with the Faulkner Society’s Words and Music Festival held each November. Students gathered from public and private schools across the New Orleans metropolitan area to engage in discussion about this year’s book, Sun, Stone, and Shadows, a collection of 20 contemporary Mexican short stories. Guest speakers at the Master Class included American humorist and author Roy Blount Jr. and Mexican author Jorge Hernandez who also edited the short story collection students read for this year’s Big Read.
