Cabrini Anatomy LabStudents in Mrs. Smart’s Anatomy Lab determined their ability to taste PTC, a bitter-tasting chemical. Then they extracted DNA from their cheek cells, set it up for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis to determine their genotype for the "taster" gene. All of the equipment was provided through Ochsner’s BEST Science Program.
