, Cabrini students who demonstrate outstanding character and hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher are given the opportunity to nominate an elementary school teacher who has had a positive impact on their lives. In the nomination, students are asked to share why they selected the teacher and the impact the nominee has had in their lives and preparation for high school and beyond.
“Ms. Lopez made a huge impact on the confidence I have in myself,” said Cabrini High School student, Emma Williams. “She helped shape the person I am today by always pushing me to do my best. Ms. Lopez is my favorite teacher for those reasons, and she is a teacher that changed the way I look at myself,” said Williams.
The 2019 Distinguished Educators were recognized during a gathering of family and friends in Cabrini’s Sacred Heart Chapel followed by a reception in Alumnae Hall.
“When you’re in high school and grammar school there are awards for everything,” said Jodi Epp of Christian Brothers School. “When you get to be an adult there are so few opportunities to get an award. To receive this award and the acknowledgement from a student is the greatest honor.”
According to Lynette Jones of St. Leo the Great School, “It’s good to know that you have a student that you made an impression on that could help her throughout her years of education.”
“Mr. Loup always encouraged us to do our best no matter how hard it was,” said Cabrini High School student, Makenna Borne. “He made sure we never gave up when classwork was challenging and taught us how to be responsible. Mr. Loup goes above and beyond what is expected.”
Cabrini High School President, Jack Truxillo, addressed the Distinguished Educators and guests. “You have made such an impression and had such an impact on your former students that they chose to go through the nominating process. That itself speaks volumes. Cabrini’s Distinguished Educator Award honors those elementary teachers who have shaped and prepared the outstanding young women who come to Cabrini High School.”
